Certified veterinarian
I, Lieve De Rycke, have had a deep love for animals since childhood. So, it was not surprising that I chose that direction for my studies. I graduated as a veterinarian from the University of Ghent in 1990. Then, in 2007, I obtained my doctorate at the Department of Medical Imaging. My doctoral work consisted of compiling an atlas of canine CT and MR images. It is a reference work that other veterinary colleagues can also consult.
Teaching and practising, a hybrid professional career
Since the fall of 1991, I've welcomed you and your pets to my private practice in Sint-Michiels Bruges. On Wednesdays, I still work in the small animal medical imaging department at the university in Merelbeke. In addition, I give practical ultrasound lessons to veterinarians in training. I also guide final-year students of UGent in the preparation of their thesis. Finally, I attend monthly refresher courses to stay up to date with the latest developments in veterinary medicine.
This combination of my practice with my university work allows me to constantly hone my craft and maintain my knowledge. And that benefits your pet as well.
Traveling with your dog or cat
Returning to or traveling with your dog/cat to the UK means you have to follow some rules. Firstly, your pet must have a microchip number. Dogs must be dewormed by a veterinarian between 24-120 hours before departure. Your pet's Rabies vaccine must also be up-to-date.
I ensure that crossing the Channel to Great Britain with your pet can happen smoothly. This includes timely deworming, rabies vaccination (valid for 3 years), filling out the passport, and much more.
If you are traveling with your dog to countries outside Europe, sometimes a blood test (titration test) may be required.
If you have any questions regarding this, feel free to contact me!
